Daniel Lemaitre was a great poet, writer of the customs of Cartagena of yesteryear with several books such as “CORRALITO DE PIEDRA”, “LA ÑAPA”, a book of POEMS AND POETRY.
Composer of several popular songs such as “PEPE”, “SEBASTIAN ROMPETE EL CUERO”, “CARAMELITO”, “MONTERIANA”, “CABRERANA”, “NEGRITO CHAMBACULERO” and others, as well as the lyrics of the HYMN OF CARTAGENA, the HYMN OF THE NATIONAL ARMADA and a beautiful lullaby, “ARRURRU”, these three with music by another well-known Bolivarian composer, his personal friend and great teacher, Adolfo Mejía.
He experimented as a farmer and rancher, writing down all the results until he summarized them in a very interesting work that he titled “NOTES FROM MY CORRAL”, which is a complete treatise on agronomy and livestock.
On occasions he flirted with public administration and was named Mayor of Cartagena on two occasions. Daniel Lemaitre took advantage, among other meritorious achievements, to eradicate the invasion hamlets in the heart of the city, managing to relocate them to land he owned as a donation, contributing to the growth and development of the city to the north with the populous neighborhood that bears his name chosen by the beneficiaries.
In 1928 he remarried the distinguished Florina Vélez Torres from Cartagena, from whose union there were no offspring. Over the years, its new factory was consolidated and extended its sales throughout the country, with its products such as “SARRAPIA SOAP”, “DOMINO SOAP”, “FREGOLI SOAP”, “SULFUR SOAP”, “LIVING SOAP”, “CHEGREL ”, whose name was composed of the initials of the names of his children Conchita, Hernando, Ernesto, Gustavo, Rafael, and Eduardo Lemaitre, and already in more modern times the well-known “SANIT K”, and “GENTLEMAN”, allowing him sufficient financial solvency to live comfortably, travel and educate his children, without forgetting his brothers, family and friends because he was also extremely generous.

In the same way, charitable institutions, health centers and religious communities such as that of San Pedro Claver, the Saint of slaves, of whom he was very devoted, learned of his generosity; He donated the entire construction and equipment of the pavilion for the treatment of tuberculosis, without forgetting his direct employees in the soap factory, for whom he facilitated the acquisition of their home.
Although wealth knocked on his door and entered his home to stay, Daniel Lemaitre did not change his great simplicity, his kindness, generosity and people skills.
