BIOGRAPHY

Alfredo Tomas Tatis Benzo is a Colombian sculptor, painter and architect, born in the city of Cartagena de Indias on August 10, 1952. He is considered one of the outstanding sculptors of the 20th century in Colombia.

Benzo showed a great love for art from an early age, at the age of 15 he began studying sculpture in Medellín, then returned to Cartagena where he studied fine arts in Fine Arts, then studied architecture at the Universidad del Atlántico.

During his long career he has held a large number of exhibitions in Colombia and has created sculptures and busts for different personalities, among which the busts given to Pope John Paul II and the bust given to Pope Francis stand out.

He has managed to very successfully combine his career in art with architecture and teaching, participating as an architect in various design, restoration and construction projects of emblematic houses and places of historical importance in Cartagena and Barranquilla, such as the restoration of the altar. of the Christ of the Inspiration of the Church of Santo Domingo, restoration of the San Diego Park and the Plaza de la Proclamation, and he also worked as a teacher at the University of Fine Arts of Cartagena for 5 years.
