Cerro El Bita is a rocky outcrop from the Precambrian era, located in Puerto Carreño, capital of the Vichada, was declared a “botanical garden, ecological reserve and archaeological zone” in 1996.

Here you can see flooded forests, savannahs, gallery forests and a great wealth of wild fauna and flora, typical of the region.

This hill is also known as “The Turtle Monument” because the oral tradition of the department points out the fact that two rocks, one on top of the other, resemble the shape of a turtle; One of the greatest attractions of this place is the abundance of flora, where you can see more than 230 species of native flora, among which are orchids, bromeliads, herbaceous plants, among others.

Petroglyphs of Cerro El Bita

In addition to the natural wealth of this place, you can see petroglyphs that, according to studies carried out by archaeologists, belong to the Pemon and Maypur indigenous groups; These being the vestiges of the ancestry of these cultures. In the northern area is located the native Calarcá community, descendants of the indigenous groups of the region.

Cerro Bita is one of the tourist viewpoints from where you can best see the mouth of the Bita River. This hill, like other rocky outcrops in the region, are samples of the Guayanés massif in Colombia and from there you can appreciate the beauty of the unique sunsets of the eastern plains.

Cerro del Bita is located in the Virgilio Barco neighborhood, 20 minutes from the center of Puerto Carreño.
