The Toute Petite Sculpture or La Pequeñita as it is known in Spanish is located in the square of the Caribbean Naval Museum, Next to the Gutter fountain and in front of the Santa Teresa Square, The sculpture was a gift from the Greek sculptor Sophia Vari to Cartagena de Indias.
“For me it is a great honor, a total happiness that the Mayor has accepted this sculpture for the city of Cartagena for many reasons: Cartagena is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it has joy, color and history and this for a sculptor is very important"Vari said excitedly, sheltered under an umbrella, in the Car Square, but happy to be able to show his works of art in the stone city.
“I have given two gifts in my life after an exhibition, the first was in Greece (Athens) and now in Colombia, because I feel that Colombia is my second country”added the famous Greek sculptor.
The sculpture measures 1.22 x 1.81 x 1.25 m, it is made of bronze, with black patina and red paint, it stands out for its rhythmic movement of wavy shapes and geometric lines.
About the Sculptor Sophia Vari
Sophia Vari is one of the most renowned artists in the world. She studied at L'École des Beaux Arts in Paris. Her style is polychrome, made of patinated bronze with some of the surfaces painted in solid colors. Her works have been exhibited mostly in cities like Paris (France); Madrid Spain); Athens, Greece); Rome (Italy) and New York (USA), she is the wife of the famous Colombian painter and sculptor Fernando Botero.
