Colombian singer J Balvin won the first American Music in the Latin category. The award finally came after he had been nominated in two previous years.
Balvin beat Ozuna and Bad Bunny in the Favorite Latin Artist category.
The Colombian celebrated on his social networks with the message “Latino Gang, we won!”
J Balvin is the first male artist to win this award that rewards the movement of singers in the North American market, but he was not the first Colombian. Shakira already has 5 American music awards in the same category, won in 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012 and 2017.
