BIOGRAPHY
Jorge Escalante Licona better known as “The panties” He was a caricaturist from Cartagena born on April 26, 1943. For more than 40 years he worked as a caricaturist in the newspaper “The Universal of Cartagena”.
His father was Elias Escalante, an automotive parts dealer at the former Ford Agency his mother was Celinda Licona, housewife; I had a twin brother named Roberto Escalante Licona. Escalante completed his studies in Bolívar High School.

His cartoons appeared for the first time on October 29, 1967 on the front page of El Universal, since then it became one of the most popular sections of the newspaper and loved by the people of Cartagena. His drawings that showed the different faces of Cartagena became an artistic and expression display that accompanied the people of Cartagena for many years. Today he is considered the greatest caricaturist the hero has ever had.
“El Panti” was the name of one of the characters in his cartoons which inspired his appearance, some of his other recurring characters were: El Champe, Andreíta, El Bobato and Copito de Nieve.

He lived for more than thirty years in the Alcibia neighborhood of Cartagena, in a huge house that was once a children's school.
Jorge Escalante Licona died on February 4, 2013 at the San Juan de Dios hospital after being hospitalized for several days due to rheumatoid arthritis. His remains rest in an urn in the cemetery “Gardens of Peace” where his parents and brother are buried.
