The Monument was made on the occasion of the IV Congress of the Spanish Language, which took place in March 2007 in the Heroic city, the sculpture was made by the sculptor Hector Lombana Piñeres.

The sculpture is made of bronze and portrays the writer sitting in a chair of the time; with a pen in his hand; On its pedestal you can see several high reliefs of the adventures of Don Quixote de la Mancha, his masterpiece, as well as a writing alluding to the sculpture and a plaque on the floor with a writing alluding to Cervantes and Cartagena de Indias.
