The monument to the Palenqueras se encuentra ubicado en la Av.
Las Palenqueras have undoubtedly become a living symbol of Cartagena de Indias, representing the Joy and color that characterize the heroic city; The sculpture was donated by the Peace for Colombia Foundation, under the direction of Eugenio Lora; and was sculpted by the sculptor Cartagenero Hernando Pereira Brieva.

The sculpture is made of bronze and measures 2.60 meters; On its pedestal you can read the following phrases: “True human greatness is placing oneself at the level of the most humble…eugenio lora” and "“Gift from the Peace for Colombia Foundation to the Colombian people to raise their self-esteem.”.
If you were asked to look for something that would identify or project the identity of Cartagena de Indias, Palenquera would undoubtedly be chosen as that “something”, since like the city, Palenquera vibrates with color, joy and life.
