History of Apolo Park

Apolo Park was built in honor of the 100th anniversary of the death of the four-time president of Colombia, Rafael Núñez Moledo, the park used to be a single complex with the Hermitage of the goatherd our lady of the mercedes and the house where Rafael Núñez lived (Today the Rafael Núñez House Museum), with the road improvements to the city, this was divided in two, in one area was the house and on the other side of the road the park and the hermitage.

In this park you can see the Monument to the Constitution of 1886 in which there are bronze busts of 9 important figures in the history of Colombia; In the busts are: Carex, Domingo Benkos Biohó, Sebastián de Eslava, Pedro Zapata de Mendoza, Vicente Celedonio Piñeres, General Juan José Nieto, Miguel Antonio Caro, Rafael Núñez and José María Campo Serrano; The busts were made by the sculptor Alfredo Tomas Tatis Benzo.

In the center of the park you can see the sculpture of Rafael Núñez Moledo, designed by sculptor Francisco Antonio Cano and cast by sculptor Orlando Montoya Avendaño, this being a replica of the sculpture found in the national capitol of Colombia in Bogotá; In addition, you will also be able to see the busts of the historian in the surroundings.
