Joaquin F. Velez Park in Cartagena

The Joaquin F. Velez Park in Cartagena It is located in the neighborhood at the foot of the hill near the Old Shoes Park, and the Iron Child Coliseum.

The park owes its name to the Monument installed there in homage to the Cartagena general Joaquín Fernando Vélez prominent politician of the 19th century, as well as a poet, diplomat, journalist and soldier.

This urban park is also known as the lion park, due to a sculpture of four lions holding a large basin intended for gardening, these lions belonged to the fountain that adorned the existing gazebo in front of the Moraima house, property of Vicente Martínez Martelo, today the headquarters of the Summit Institute. This fountain was relocated to the now mentioned park when the authorities decided to eliminate the gazebo. It is also said that the park acquired this name when the Cartagena de Indias Lions Club adopts it and in a joint action with the municipality builds it along with an adjacent children's baseball field that this volunteer organization continues to manage to this day.

Currently, Joaquin F. Velez Park is a fairly cool place, with many flowers and vegetation. Although it is small, it is very quiet and very well maintained. Additionally, this park has free Internet access via WIFI.
