The Plaza del Pozo in Cartagena de Indias, is located in the neighborhood Gethsemane in intermediations with the flip flop street.
History of the Plazoleta or Plaza del Pozo
This square is iconic for having been the scene of fatal clashes between the inhabitants of the “Arsenal Street” and those of the “barahona beach street”In addition to this, this square was the starting point of the festivities held by the Getemanicenses in which, through public fandangos and a large decorated float accompanied by music, they transported the most beautiful young women whom they called "goddesses."
These Festivals gradually disappeared from the city and from the memory of the people of Gethsemane, due to political disputes that continually occurred between liberals and conservatives, the former from the Plaza del Pozo and the latter from Chambacú. Over the years, the celebrations in said square were eliminated until today.
