Diego Campos is the first Colombian in history to become World Barista Champion, after many years of effort and preparation.
The championship took place since last October 22 at the HostMilano fair, in Milan, Italy; in which Campos had to put into practice all his years of learning and experience in coffee management in just 15 minutes to obtain said title.
Campos has participated several times in the National Barista Championship where he achieved first place in 2015, 2016 and 2019, and he has also participated in the world championship in 2014 and 2015 in which he managed to place thirteenth. and third place respectively.
“Colombia, this is for you, the baristas, the coffee growers, for all the people who get up every day to dream, to want to achieve things. This belongs to everyone,” said Diego Campos, new World Barista Champion after receiving the award.
The representatives of the United States and Australia came in second and third place respectively. It should be noted that both participants also used Colombian coffee beans in their preparations, which highlights the appreciation for the quality of Colombian coffee that exists among professionals in the field. .
This title is of great importance for Colombia to the extent that being one of the largest coffee producers in the world confirms that not only is its bean of great quality but that the service industry around it is also of the highest quality. high quality.
Diego Campos has been working as a barista for 13 years and for nearly 18 years linked to the planting, harvesting and production of coffee, alternating both activities; which he shares with his wife Derlin Roa, the 2019 Aeropress national champion.
Campos prepared for five years to fulfill his dream of obtaining this title that today fills all of Colombia with pride.
