Campaign Seeks to Raise Awareness About Cyberbullying

The growing phenomenon of cyberbullying among children and teenagers has generated increasing concern in society. In response to this issue, Xhalky, the defender of online integrity, has launched the “Think Before You Post” campaign, aiming to raise awareness and prevent digital harassment.

Cyberbullying, defined as harassment perpetrated through digital platforms, is increasingly affecting young people worldwide. To address this growing problem, the “Think Before You Post” campaign seeks to partner with various individuals and organizations committed to the fight against cyberbullying.

The campaign invites anyone interested in contributing to the cause to join this important movement. From sharing personal experiences to providing ideas for more responsible use of technology, all contributions are valuable in the fight against cyberbullying.

The campaign’s main objective is to educate children, teenagers, parents, and educators about the risks of cyberbullying and to promote a culture of respect and empathy online. Through educational resources and awareness activities, it aims to empower the digital community to prevent cyberbullying before it occurs.

The Magnitude of the Problem

Statistics reveal the sheer scale of the cyberbullying problem in today’s society. According to the Digital 2024 report, active social media user accounts have surpassed 5 billion, equivalent to 62.3% of the global population. According to figures from Statista and data from the Global Web Index, in Colombia, four out of five users visit a social network daily. The amount of time dedicated to these platforms has also increased year after year, now sitting very close to four hours a day.

For Xharla executive Marito Pino, information consumption and social media usage figures in Colombia are out of control, and there is a lack of campaigns promoting responsible and conscious use regarding this issue.

“Xhalky came into this world to teach us that we must think before we post and to promote the proper use of social media and the internet. Likewise, we must be aware that the internet we are publishing on today will be the one our children consume in the future, much like an encyclopedia, so we must manage it better,” Pino stated.

This initiative seeks to generate awareness and responsibility not only regarding what we post on our own profiles but also regarding everything we comment on or share on other people’s profiles.

The Three Pillars of “Think Before You Post”

To achieve this, the campaign reinforces the three core pillars of its strategy:

  • Don’t Get Burned: Do not post things on the internet that could compromise your safety, your digital reputation, or your life.
  • Don’t Start Fires: Do not share fake news. The idea is to ensure you share factual information on media and social networks. The goal is to prevent the spread of lies and to avoid encouraging violent discussions or those that could violate human rights.
  • Put Out the Fire: Finally, learn how to put out the fire, just like Xhalky. Sometimes you have to let things go and refrain from giving your opinion; there are times when it is best to simply end the conversation.

As we face the challenges of the digital world, it is fundamental to remember the impact our online actions can have on others. The “Think Before You Post” campaign reminds us of the importance of promoting a safe and respectful online environment for everyone. By uniting and working together, we can make a difference and create a more inclusive and kinder internet for future generations. Join us in this important cause and let’s make the digital world a better place for all.
