Biography
Carlos Benjumea, affectionately known as El Gordo Benjumea, was a Colombian actor, director, and comedian of film, theater, and television, born in Bogotá on January 27, 1941.
He began his career in theater and later became part of the famous comedy Yo y Tú. In the 1970s, he ventured into cinema, starring in several films, and expanded into telenovelas, television programs as a presenter, and directing both theater and television productions. He was also co-founder of the programadora Coestrellas, a key player in Colombian television.

Throughout more than 50 years in the arts, Benjumea stood out as a versatile actor with the ability to embody a wide range of roles. In 2017, he received the Víctor Nieto Award at the Premios India Catalina for his artistic career.
He was married to Liz Yamayusa, sister of actress Maru Yamayusa. His children Marcela Benjumea, Ernesto Benjumea, and Paola Benjumea have all built successful careers in acting, continuing his artistic legacy.
Carlos Benjumea passed away on May 13, 2021, due to health complications that had arisen in previous months. He is remembered as one of the most beloved and iconic figures in Colombian entertainment history.
