Johnny Cakes or Journey cake recipe
The Johnny Cakes either Journey cake son una especie de pan sin levadura, muy consumidos en las zonas isleñas e insulares de muchas partes del mundo, en Colombia son muy populares en San Andrés y providencia en donde se han convertido en parte de la gastronomía local. Aprende en esta sencilla receta como hacer unos ricos Johnny Cakes de forma fácil y rápida.
Ingredients
- 1 pound wheat flour
- 2 tablespoons of baking powder
- 1 Cup of coconut milk
- ½ Sugar cup
- 2 tablespoons of oil
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- Salt
Step by step preparation
- First, mix all the ingredients in a container, adding the wheat flour, two tablespoons of baking powder, a teaspoon of salt, sugar, two tablespoons of oil and two tablespoons of butter.
- Once you have mixed everything, knead until you have a consistent dough, then let it rest for about 30 minutes.
- Then proceed to assemble bread rolls or small pancakes with the dough and place them in the oven for about 10 minutes. The oven must have previously been preheated to 350° for approximately 45 minutes.

- The origin of Johnny cakes is attributed to the indigenous peoples of America who taught the colonizers how to prepare them.
- Depending on the country, these tend to have a slightly different appearance, some make them like small breads, others like rolls, in other parts like small arepas, likewise in several countries they use some other ingredients in their preparation.
