Biography
Maruja Toro Osorio was a Colombian actress of film, theater, and television, born in Fresno, Tolima, on March 10, 1915. Her talent and career made her one of the greatest references in Colombian acting.
From childhood, she showed her artistic gifts as a declaimer in school. Early in her career, she worked as a radio announcer and actress in radionovelas for stations such as Ecos del Combeima, Radio Nacional, Radio Nuevo Mundo, and Radio Nueva Granada. In 1961, she made her television debut in a teleteatro program.

From then on, she continuously participated in successful theatrical plays, television productions, and films. Her talent elevated her to the status of an icon of Colombian acting, to the point that the Círculo de Artistas de Colombia established the Premio Maruja Toro in her honor.
At the age of 17, she married schoolteacher Luis Carlos Zuluaga, from Filadelfia, Caldas, and together they had 11 children.
Maruja Toro passed away on June 4, 1980, due to a throat illness, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most respected and beloved figures in Colombian performing arts.
