Recipe for Sorrel or Jamaican flower soda
The Sorrel either Refresco de Flor de Jamaica es una bebida muy popular en muchos países de América Latina, en Colombia este refresco es particularmente popular en la costa, destacándose san Andrés islas como uno de los lugares en donde más se prepara, esta sencilla receta te enseñara como hacer esta refrescante y deliciosa bebida.
Ingredients
- 1 pound Jamaica flower
- 1 medium ginger root
- 1 tablespoon of cinnamon powder
- 1 tablespoon of anise grains
- sugar (al gusto)
- 3 liters of water
- Ice
Step by step preparation
- Place the water to boil in a pewter, enameled or Teflon pot, adding the ginger, cinnamon and anise. You should let everything cook for about 10 minutes.
- Then add the Jamaica flower, cover the pot and remove it from the heat.
- Let the drink sit until it cools, then add sugar to taste.
- If you want to give the drink more flavor, you can optionally add a little brandy.
- And that's it, you can serve the drink by adding ice.

- In San Andrés Providencia and Santa Catalina, Jamaica Water is called Sorrel or Sorrel soda because that is the name of the flower on this island.
